The obituary was written by novelist Louis Bayard, who we had the pleasure to meet on that very same day, and who was gracious enough to sit down and discuss his novels, perversely dark homages, inspirations for both Valjean and Javert, the importance of starting points, the heroes of English literature, the importance of writing regimens, and the power of being able to imagine anything except not being a writer.
