“Screenshot 2016-03-07 22.04.22Christy Burgess is the director of the Robinson Shakespeare Company, a project of the Robinson Learning Center in South Bend, Indiana. The other “other RSC” is designed for students from grades three through twelve, and its young actors have gone on to perform monologues and scenes at competitions and conferences around the US, and have even been recognized and tweeted about by Shakespeare’s Globe in London. Christy talks about lessons learned, skills developed, expectations defied, and young actors claiming fierce ownership of magnificent texts. (Length 18:12)

Schoch reveals how he discovered the dual focus of his book; how it took almost 200 years for people to realize the treasure that still stood in their midst; the shenanigans played by people who first depicted Shakespeare’s birthplace; the important distinctions between restoring a house and remaking it; the trick of hitting that sweet spot between writing an academic history and a popular one; and how the most important person in Shakespeare’s birthplace is not Shakespeare but the visitor.
