Episode 422. Dean Of Comedy

Published by austin on

IMG_4441Steve Smith is the former dean of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus Clown College, director of the Big Apple Circus, and has forgotten more about comedy than we’ll ever know. In discussing his career and thoughts about comedy, Steve touches on his comic inspirations, impressive audio visual aids, the origins of the myth of the evil clown, the challenges of keeping so many shows in your head, the virtues of tenacity vs. talent, signs from the heavens, distinct lack of pretense, and the benefits of turning bullies into bodyguards. UPDATE: As of (appropriately enough) April Fool’s Day 2015, Steve has just been named Creative Director of San Francisco’s Circus Center. Congrats to them both! (Length 18:07)
