The Doctor may be a time traveller, but most of his stories aren’t actually time travel stories. They’re more settings for stories. There are a few individual episodes that do qualify. “Blink” from series 3 is outstanding on so many levels and is a true time travel story. I would put that episode in my top 10 list of “best hours of television” and the top of my list of best time travel stories.

They’re then thrown into a digital hat and I pluck one out each week, double-checking that I haven’t given them a shout-out before. I usually try to get both first and last names but sometimes will use noms de web if it looks like I’ll totally screw up the pronunciation.

Love it. There’s a similar bit in the DS9 episode “Trials & Tribble-ations”, in which an agent from the “Department of Temporal Investigations” refers to Capt. James T. Kirk as “The worst. A menace.”

My favorite Star Trek time travel story is from Voyager. A renegade time cop from the future travels back in time to kill Janeway because she’s messed with time too much. For me its so meta. Star Trek always seems to do a time travel ep when they run out of other ideas. So, for there to be an in-universe character who just flips his lid and goes “STOP. MESSING WITH. THE TIMELINE!” is hysterical to me.

I also love Back to the Future, including the chalk board bit, BUT: Back to the Future Pt. II isn’t internally consistent! After Biff brought the almanac back, he would have traveled to the newly created 2015, not the one Marty and Doc were walking around in. They should have been stranded in that 2015 forever. But then, of course, there’s no story.

I just finished my project for building huts for homeless children whose gandmothers are sick and need transplants. We were about to open our doors on Tuesday but I need to get a license from the county on Monday. The fee is $10, but I guess Bill really needs the money, so I guess my hut project can wait.

Hey! That’s my mother who said it was “irreverent without being sacrilegious.” Yeah, it was an outstanding show. Our party had an age range of 7 to 77, and we all found something to love. I nearly hyperventilated from laughing so much during the Panto section (and really saw more of Reed than I ever need to again).

Thanks again for another great show, and an interesting view backstage at the RSC.

Come up to Maine! Augusta is the capital and there’s a show place there (I saw the Lipizzaner stallions there). Farther north/east at Bangor or Orono wd be even better for us, becs we live on an island off Mt Desert Is – Bar Harbor is on MDI and one of the easier places to find on a map of the area. It’s 4 hrs just to the ME/NH state line, 5.5-6 to Boston…..

We have the total Shakespeare dvd and love it. Seeing you all on stage in person wd be fantastic.

I agree! I completely buy the implausibility. It is absolutely implausible. Very easy to buy that. Well said. And love the Happy Days allusion. Jumping the shark should hereby be the phrase to sum up the utter self-destruction of any artistic endeavor. B is an appropriate grade as this film should be seen with a buzz. I too loved Christopher Guest as Anne Boleyn. And the epiphany that Tom Hulce wrote Shakespeare’s plays? Priceless! I laughed, I cried, it was the feel-good review of the year!

I too could not really wait to see the movie, so I saw it the Saturday that it opened. I agree that the costuming was outstanding; I rather liked the acting. But the STORY – Yikes! Any relation between history and this really was coincidental! I mean, the Essex rebellion did do a Shakespeare play beforehand, but it was Richard II, and Robert Cecil had a bad leg, he wasn’t a hunchback. The whole plot, I think, set back the cause of the DeVere afficionados back about 200 years. Not that I mind. I think the whole DeVere theory is elitist. Thanks for your review. It was good to be able to listen you all your opinions!

Please play Worcester (or somewhere near to) again – saw you last time and was in fits of laughter all the way through (Macbeth is just inspired!). Have a whole bus-load of people waiting to see you. Rose Theatre in Kidderminster is good, as is the Artrix in Bromsgrove, Swan Theatre in Worcester is also good. Could always see what Will’s old hangin’ ground thinks of you – play Cox’s Yard in Stratford!! Either way, come again soon please.
